Thanks go to Ronda Hill, WG Arnold’s Grandaughter, for the above photos. It is possible that the middle picture was taken when a Dunedin prize crew was in South Africa having taken the French Vichy merchant ship, Ville de Rouen, to Cape Town. We cannot be sure.

Biography:

Shipwright William Arnold (P/SR 8292) was born in Portsmouth on July 1st 1918 to Henry Walter Arnold, who served in the Royal Navy from 1899 to 1919, and his wife Louisa (née Berry). William married Mary Elizabeth Passingham in Portsmouth in 1940.
