Ordinary Seaman Leonard Allen (P/JX 161370) was born into a large family on July 20th 1923 in Farnborough, Hampshire, the son of Albert Allen, a farm labourer, and his wife Elizabeth (née Vidler). By early 1939, both his parents were dead, and Leonard was living in Liverpool, employed in a Rope and Twine store.

One of Leonard’s brothers was killed in Germany in 1945.
