William Henry Brown, Telegraphist, (D/J 79510) was born in Hythe, Kent, on April 29th, 1902, the son of Henry Brown (1875-1914) and his wife, Ellen Hayward Brown, née Hinkley.

William joined the Royal Navy in 1917 and completed his active service in 1927, when he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve. He re-enlisted in 1939 and according to his service record, served on HMS Dunedin from January 1st, 1940 until his death.

William married Florence May Copperwheat in 1927. They had two children.
