Able Seaman Thomas Owen Ball (P/JX 219337) was the only son of Thomas and Janet Ball (née Anderson). He was born on November 21st 1917 in Openshaw, Manchester, but later moved with his parents to Hitchin, Hertfordshire, where he was living when he enlisted in 1940.
